Hello, friends!
I’ve been hard at work on Kindly Light Prayer Journal, which is now available on Amazon!
This project grew out of my struggles with cognitive dysfunction after my brain injury. As a lifetime journaler and prayer, not being able to do either after my injury without intense effort was rough.
The brain doesn’t get enough credit when we talk about spirituality, and we don’t really talk about what spiritual life is like if you can’t remember words or thoughts.
Having a brain injury has meant that I have needed to be much gentler with myself about my capacities, including my boundaries around prayer. You don’t need to be neurodiverse or have a neurological injury to use this, but I created it specifically as a resource for people with executive function challenges. Having a page to show up to and be accountable to is really helping me, and I need something short, not intense.
I designed Kindly Light Prayer Journal to be a simple, gentle way to practice daily prayer.
I talk about the journal and the background behind it on this Instagram Live. If you want a peek at one of the pages, check out this reel.
It’s already climbing the charts!
I view Kindly Light Prayer Journal as a practical companion to The Brain’s Lectionary: Psalms and Observations, my artistic and literary journey to reconstitute myself after my brain injury, coming soon from BCCPress. I hope The Brain’s Lectionary will light people’s brains up and inspire self-reflection on spiritual reconstitution in the wake of a life-reorganizing trauma.
I also wanted people to have a takeaway tool that they could use if they don’t resonate as much with poetry as a vehicle for self-healing. I’ve found this journal very helpful, and people who have used it so far have felt the same!
Here’s what to expect:
I hope this helps you with your prayer life. Please send me a message and let me know what your experience with this journal is like, or leave a review on Amazon. I will be continuing to think about ways to make this and future journals the best they can be.
As always, thanks for reading the monthly Lovely Brains Newsletter! If this has been helpful, feel free to share, especially with a friend or brain injury advocate. See you in your inbox when The Brain’s Lectionary comes out!
